If you look around you can usually find something to be positive about. If you want to be happy, you can be. Here’s my list for today:
- There were birds singing outside my window this morning.
- I have chocolate chip cookies waiting for me at home.
- Only 3 more papers to write and then it’s Spring Break!
- It’s a skirt day. Mine is long and flowy, kind of gauzy.
- My daughter’s aikido test is tonight and she is so excited!

I’m glad. It’s actually kind of addictive. I’ve started catching myself thinking during the day that events that normally would have just passed on by are good ‘happy’ material. I’m trying really hard to be positive these days and making these lists forces me to reflect on what is good. It’s been a hellish week but this exercise shows that even when life seems all uphill there are still good things around. Recognizing this and creating a record are strategies, I think, that can keep us from getting pulled under. At least, that’s my hope.
